🏀 Men’s League Week 1 Recap: Power Rankings in Shambles and Cardio in Question
The preseason power rankings have officially been exposed. After just one week, our “experts”are already eating their words — and possibly ice packs. Week 1 brought big plays, bigger upsets, and enough airballs to make a house (of bricks). Let’s break it down.

Super Simple Sheets 70 – Ewyn Weight Loss Studios 42
Captain Rob celebrated his birthday in the best way possible — with a convincing Super Simple win that wasn’t simple for Ewyn at all. The Sheets came out looking like they’d been running wind sprints all offseason. Cody Hache put on a defensive clinic, terrorizing passing lanes, blocking shots, and still finding time to drain a three and run the offence. Birthday boy Rob couldn’t have asked for a better present than a 28-point win and bragging rights for the week. Meanwhile, Ewyn's crew showed flashes, but as Captain Fawcett knows — until their big man shows up, it’s tough to compete against the top seed.
Player of the Game: Cody Hache
Bonus Gift: One W for Rob’s birthday
Mike Fair GMC 66 – 4Life Fitness 54
The horsepower was real in this one. Dave Dufort went off for Mike Fair GMC, leading a balanced attack that looked like it came straight out of a coaching manual (or maybe a truck brochure). GMC played beautiful team basketball — crisp passes, strong rotations, and even out rebounded the bigger 4Life squad. 4Life Fitness, though, had Josh Kleinlagel looking sharp and confident. It’s only a matter of time before this team clicks. Once they figure out how to combine muscle with made shots, the rest of the league better watch out (maybe).
Player of the Game: Dave “Built Ford Tough” Dufort
Lonesome Pine Farms 71 – Podium Sports 60
The Game of the Week did not disappoint. Lonesome Pine Farms and Podium Sports Therapy traded buckets and trash talk. Mike Lee ran the show for Lonesome Pine, dishing and scoring with ease while keeping his squad calm and collected. Podium Sports made a late push but couldn’t quite plant their flag on this one. Expect Podium to bounce back as Perrin's squad hasn't lost back to back games in 3 years.
Player of the Game: Mike Lee
Tomlinson 63 – Rideau Realty 57
This one was a tale of two halves. Rideau Realty came out smooth and steady, led by a calm and collected squad, and the undisputed best realtor in the biz (he’ll sell your house and hit a corner 3). And then… halftime happened. Tomlinson roared back from a huge deficit, powered by Ben Bellamy’s lights-out three-point shooting and Nick Everett’s near double-double domination (8 points, 15 rebounds). It was chaos in the best way. For Rideau Realty, two things are guaranteed every season: 1️⃣ Scott is still the best realtor in town & 2️⃣
Joe McNichols’ drop step remains completely unstoppable.
Player of the Game: Nick “Board Man Gets Paid” Everett
And just like that, week 1 is in the books. The rust is shaking off, the rivalries are heating up, and the group chat excuses are already flying. If this week was any indication, we’re in for one entertaining season — so lace ’em up, hydrate, and maybe stretch before the next game.
