White started off with the ball and Grant Roney led the charge for White. Jeffrey Barrington put the first points on the board for White off a Roney touchdown pass. The point after fell short and White took an early 5-0 lead on Championship Sunday. Red would take over with high hopes for the drive. Bodee Thibideau started the day at Q for Red and found his favourite target Braxton “Big Play” Herbison for 6 and the lead. Jackson Jodoin was on the receiving end of the point after and Red was ahead 7-5.

Bodee Thibideau was not done as he quickly grabbed an interception for Red to stretch the lead 10-5. White would make it up as they forced a turnover on Red’s next possession. Grant Roney took over and didn't miss the opportunity to regain the lead. Grant Roney found Josh Kerr for 6 and with the incomplete point after we were tied at 10. Braxton Herbison took over at Q for Red and returned the favour finding Bodee Thibideau in the endzone. These were the final points before halftime and Red had a 15-10 lead.

After a short halftime we were in for a treat in the second half. White would start the second half with another Grant Roney touchdown. Roney found Dominic Lane for the score and the 1-point convert. Lane’s touchdown would give White a 17-15 lead early in the second half.

Red has been a powerhouse offence all year and would come up big one more time. Braxton Herbison moved the ball and eventually found Ronan Sloan for 6 and the 1-point convert. Red would put the pressure on White as the score was running down. With a deficit of 5 White would have 40 yards to go and almost no time remaining on the clock.

On the last play of the game Roney dropped back and found Dominic Lane once again on a deep catch and run play for the walk off and the Championship. The Final was 23-22 and White earned the Brockville Youth 7 on 7 Championship. A very exciting ending to a great year of Junior 7 on 7 was capped off with an awards ceremony. The Senior’s started off at 11:30am with Team Red (5-1) vs. Team White (1-5) and this game was a thriller. Red won the regular season with a record of 5-1 and they chose to defer to the second half and give White the ball to start the highly anticipated Senior Finals.

Mackie Holmes took the reins for Team White as a 9th grade QB, and on the first possession started with a bang. Holmes found Evan Cordingley in the endzone for the first score of the day and found Marcus Ola on the 1-point convert for an early 7-0 lead. White would pull ahead early and put the pressure on Red as Marcus Ola grabbed an interception on Red’s first offensive drive, extending White’s lead to 10-0.

We would have to get used to the Holmes to Cordingley combo as Mackie again found Evan in the endzone for another score. Andrew Lassale was on the receiving end of the 1-point convert and White had a very early 17-0 lead. Putting all the pressure on Red for the first time this year.

Red would not go away easy, as the league favourite found themselves down 17 points well before half they had to get to work. The first positive note for Red came on a Fairbairn to Logan Paulin touchdown to give Red some life. The 2-point convert fell short and the lead was 17-4.

With time winding down in the first half Mackie Holmes again found pay dirt. Holmes found Marcus Ola for 6 and after another successful 1-point convert White had a commanding lead 24-4. Red took over down 20 with 4 minutes until halftime. Red would not lie down easily as Brody managed to find Damien Nickerson for the score before half. The 2-point convert was also caught by Nickerson and the lead was cut to 24-12. The Final score of the half came on another Mackie Holmes to Evan Cordingley connection. The score heading into the half was 29-12.

As Red deferred in the first half they started with the ball and a 17 point deficit after half. Red would move the ball early in the drive but ultimately could not convert on 4th down which gave White the ball and a big lead to pad. White’s first mistake of the day would come on an interception caught by Brody Fairbairn to make the score 29-15 White and regained possession.

It didn’t take long for Brody to hit Nathan Mboma on a deep post for 40 yards and the score. After the failed 1-point convert White held a 29-20 lead and clawed back into the game early in the second half. On White’s next drive Mackie Holmes again found Evan Cordingley for the pair's fourth touchdown connection of the afternoon. Jack Broniszeski was on the receiving end of the convert and the score was 36-20.

The experienced Fairbairn kept his cool and brought Red down the field on the next drive, capping it off with a touchdown pass to Damien Nickerson. Logan Paulin was good on the conversion and Red cut the lead to 8. White took over on the 40 with an 8 point lead that was quickly stretched back to 13 as Holmes found Broniszeski for 6.

Now, a 13 point game with time running down Red was in desperate need of a score and a turnover. Fairbairn took care of the former by hitting Nathan Mboma on a huge touchdown and conversion that brought the lead to 6.

White, who had a tough time dealing with Red all year, was just minutes away from a championship upset. The score sat at 41-35 with just minutes left. Mackie Holmes would find Marcus Ola for his second touchdown reception of the game. Cordingley was successful on the conversion (48-35).

With no time remaining Fairbairn found Nathan Mboma once more and completed a 2-point conversion to Damien Nickerson. The Final was 48-43 White as they pulled off the huge upset to earn the first BY7on7 Championships!
