Week 6: Brockville Youth 7 on 7 Football

Juniors: Final Regular Season Game

The final regular season games of the year were played Sunday September 12th at 10:00am and 11:30am. The Junior’s season series was 3-2 in favour of Red heading into Sunday.

Braxton Herbison started off the scoring with an interception for a 3-0 lead Red. Herbison wasn't done there as he threw the game's first touchdown to Iain Baird. Baird’s first touchdown reception of the year gave Red a 8-0 lead. Baird caught the point after as well and White took over at the 40 down 9.

Nate Latimer cut the lead to 3 as he was on the receiving end of a Grant Roney touchdown pass. The point after fell short and Red had a 4 point lead and the ball. Dom Lane grabbed a quick interception for White and the score was 9-8 Red. Braxton Herbison again responded, hitting Bodee Thibideau for 6 for the third week in a row. The point after was caught by Ronan Sloan for an 8 point lead. Red would add another three points to the lead when Kolten Davis picked up an interception.

White, now down 11 with the ball, quickly responded when Grant Roney hit Nate Latimer for his second touchdown of the day. Dom Lane caught the 1-point convert and cut the lead to 4. Red had a 19-15 lead. Kolten Davis found the endzone again for Red on the receiving end of another Herbison touchdown pass and Red pulled ahead 24-15.

White was in need of a big score with time running down in the second half. Jeffrey Barrington found the endzone just in time to give White some energy heading into the final possessions of the game. After the failed point after attempt the score was 24-20 Red.

With one minute remaining Red just needed to kill the clock. With time running down Red scored once more to extend the lead to 30-20 as time expired. Our Senior’s kicked off their final regular season game with Red holding a commanding 5-0 lead over White. White won the toss and took the ball to start the game. Cordingley got things started for White hitting Liam Samure for 6 on the first drive of the game. The 2-point convert was dropped and White had a 4-0 lead. Red took over on the 40 with a big win streak to protect.

Fairbairn threw his league leading twenty-sixth touchdown pass to Andrew Plashcka to quickly take the lead. The point after was incomplete and Red was up 5-4. White responded on their second offensive possession as Tristan Hawksby caught his third touchdown reception of the year from Cordingley. White was again unsuccessful on the point after attempt and the lead was 9-5 White.

Red, not used to playing from behind, again took over at the 40 down 4. Fairbairn drove the field and capped it off with the touchdown pass to Nathan Mboma for his sixth touchdown reception of the season. Mboma also caught the 2-point convert and Red had a 3 point lead.

Cordingley, perfect on the day, took over for White’s third possession with three minutes before half. White was able to find the endzone again when Cordingley connected with Andrew Lassale for the score. The point after was incomplete and the score 15-13 White. The final score before half-time came off a Nathan Mboma interception giving Red a 1 point lead heading into half.

The second half began the same way the first ended, with an interception. Mackie Holmes gave White the 1 point lead and the ball. Holmes was also on the receiving end of the next score as Cordingley found Mackie in the endzone. White finally worked out the kinks and converted the 1-point attempt on an Andrew Lassale reception. White pulled ahead 25-16 and put the pressure on Red.

Red responded as Brody Fairbairn found Damien Nickerson for his sixth touchdown reception of the season. Damien also caught the 2-point convert and the White lead was cut to just 1. White would start to pull ahead and never look back as Cordingley found Tristan Hawksby again. White would hold off Red and score again as Evan found Lassale for six as well. The score was now 42-24 White.

Red wouldn't go away as they fought to remain perfect on the season. Brody Fairbairn found Nathan Mboma again and hit Damien Nickerson on the 2-point convert and cut the lead to 10.
